You can easily reach the house via the A39 and A40 motorways, which get you to Geneva in 1 hour and 30 minutes and to Lyon in 1 hour and 15 minutes. The charming town of Bourg-en-Bresse, the administrative centre of France's Ain department, is 25 minutes away. The village in which the property lies offers shops. The neighbouring towns offer amenities. The village is nestled between the Bresse plain and the first foothills of the Jura mountain range - two contrasting regions renowned for their beautiful natural heritage.
The village with its quaint alleys is perched upon a rocky hill. It is made up of medieval houses built for rich merchants or for ordinary use. The house, which dates back to the 14th century, lies at the top of the village. It faces a square where an age-old linden tree towers, between the village's church and former chateau. A west-facing vista stretches far across the plain.
The houseThe stone house has three different levels. It is crowned with a gabled roof of flat tiles with a new frame. Natural light shines upon its east, north and west elevations. It also has a spacious garage that connects to the house - a rare asset for a medieval village centre. The current owners have carried out major renovation work over the past five years, from the roof frame and finishes to the window frames and insulation, giving the old home optimal comfort all year round.
The ground floor
A few stone steps lead up to the entrance door facing the village square. A vast hallway with a tiled floor, an old fireplace and a modern wood-and-metal staircase connects to all the rooms and upper levels. An extensive lounge with a dining area offers a floor area of 55m². This reception room has kept its historical features: exposed beams, oak strip flooring, wooden panelling, old doors and a fireplace. Beyond it, there is a bedroom with the same features and a shower room with a lavatory. These two rooms look westwards, out at a far-reaching vista stretching over the Bresse plain. On the east side, a fitted kitchen looks out at the grand door of the village church. There is a guest lavatory on this floor too.
The first floor
The modern staircase leads up to a broad landing that serves as a television lounge, beyond which a storage space lies.
