Ten kilometres southwest of the state capital of Potsdam lies the village of Ferch, which stretches along the shores of Lake Schwielowsee. Today, Ferch is a very popular place to live for people working in Berlin and Potsdam due to its convenient connection to the federal motorway 10 and has seen a corresponding increase in population since the 1990s.
The area surrounding Ferch is almost entirely characterised by forest and water.
