In the Montmorency valley, between the national forests of Saint-Germain-en-Laye and Montmorency, Franconville is a former medieval hamlet that remained a village until around 1970. Since then, the dynamic parish has experienced significant growth, with the construction of an ever-increasing number of cultural and sports facilities. The town features countless local shops, three markets and several green areas. Day care centres, several nursery and primary schools, lower and higher secondary schools, both public and private, are all within easy reach of the house. Last but not least, the town enjoys a very convenient geographical location, with a large number of trunk roads leading directly to Paris and Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport, as well as a railway station with Transilien and RER services to the centre of the capital.
On a hill, in a residential area of the "garden city", the streets wind their way gradually to the front of the property. Once past the entrance gate, the house is still hidden from view, overlooking a 553 m² wooded, fully walled garden with automatic watering system. The original building dates from 1930 and was extended 10 years ago with a clever glass and steel extension, emphasising the inextricable link between the house and its leafy surroundings. The designers of this vast conversion sought to transform the property into a unique place, taking advantage of the major works to insulate the walls and roof to achieve an excellent energy performance.
The houseThe house offers around 200 m² of living space over four levels. From the basement to the top floor, the design emphasis is on modernity, light, colour and comfort. On the ground floor, the 80 m² reception room is virtually suspended above the landscaped garden, and benefits from an intelligent layout with plenty of built-in storage space. An unpolished oak staircase leads from the basement to the upper floors. The first floor comprises a 15 m² bedroom, a 45 m² workshop with bespoke storage and shelving areas and a terrace, a small additional study and a bathroom with two windows. The top floor, approx. 30 m², features a single room enhanced by a vast, unoverlooked terrace offering exceptional views over the treetops, a few rooftops and the city in the distance. The basement comprises a cellar and a large room that could be used as an office for a freelance professional activity thanks to its separate entrance. There remains a great deal of potential for creating unique family, professional or artistic premises just twenty or so kilometres from the capital.
