This residence is located on the outskirts of the historic town of Château-Gontier, renowned for its wealth of heritage and gentle way of life, in the south of the Mayenne area in the Pays de la Loire region. The town boasts all the essential everyday shops and services. The village in which the former presbytery is situated boasts a riding centre, a golf course and a beauty salon. By road, the railway stations in Laval, Angers and Sablé, with high-speed TGV services, are 40 minutes away. Lastly, Nantes and its international airport are 1 hour 30 minutes away.
In the middle of the village, the property stands to the east of the church square, while a peaceful street lies to the south. The edifice was mainly built in the 18th century before a significant extension in the 19th century saw the perpendicular addition of a second section. Both parts, made of lime-rendered rubble stone, are rectangular and form an L-shape, topped by slate roofs. The window and door surrounds as well the quoins are made of tuffeau stone. To the east, the former presbytery's garden is enclosed by a stone wall, while the garden extends to the north and includes a wooden hangar.
The residence
The ground floor
To the east, the main entrance opens directly into a large lounge/dining room. On one side, the room leads to a utility room/boiler room, as well as to a storeroom and a wine cellar. On the other side, there is another lounge, from where a wooden staircase leads to the upper floors. A small hallway leads to a lavatory as well as to a traditional kitchen. The rooms still boast several original features, including terracotta floor tiles, French style beamed ceilings, a fireplace, a period staircase, wooden interior shutters and wooden doors, with moulded panels, that are either solid wood or semi-glazed. There are many windows, allowing light to flood in, and bright colours are used throughout.
The first floor
This level can be reached by a 19th-century wooden staircase and is set around a landing and corridor leading to five bedrooms. The fourth bedroom is carpeted and is adjacent to a shower room with a lavatory. The fifth bedroom is next to a bathroom with a lavatory, wardrobe space and a linen room. The level also boasts several original features, including terracotta floor tiles, oakwood parquet flooring and marble fireplaces.
The attic
This level has not yet been converted and extends over both sections of the house. It can be reached via the main staircase, is currently used as a loft and the flooring is made up of terracotta tiles.The hangarThis building was created using the structure of the former communal washhouse, with a slate roof supported by wooden pillars. With a surface of approximately 70-m², it has capacity for three vehicles and storage space for tools.The gardenIt spreads out mainly to the north and includes ornamental trees, particularly hornbeam, palm, mimosas and bamboo, among others, as well as fruit trees, lining a large rectangular lawn. At its northern tip, there is also a vegetable garden. It can be watered thanks to the presence of a well fitted with an electric pump.
