20 minutes to the east of Tours, a former outbuilding, transformed into a pleasant family home with a garden - ref 999617

20 minutes to the east of Tours, a former outbuilding, transformed into a pleasant family home with a garden.
This property is located in the Indre-et-Loire area, 230 km from Paris, in a municipality to the north of the River Loire, 20 minutes from Tours and its railway station from where high-speed TGV trains put the French capital within less than one hour's reach. The Brenne Valley, with its many mansions and manors, is surrounded by the famous, top-quality vineyards that have shaped the area. This small municipality is near to all the essential shops and services, with schools and doctors' surgeries that can be reached on foot. Away from the village centre, the street runs along the side of the slope in a green valley.
An iron gate opens from the street onto a gravelled parking area that leads up to the courtyard in front of the entrance to the house on one side and to the garden at the foot of the slope on the other side. This former outbuilding has been fully transformed and was enhanced by an extension in 2005. While outside only the brick window frames and a part of the building pay witness to its past, inside the partially exposed stone walls are well-preserved and combine with modern architecture. It has been designed as a family home, with six bedrooms ready to welcome new occupants, large west-facing windows and a vast reception room that opens onto the garden. There are three cellars in the hill slope and a flight of steps leads to a wooded area at its summit.
The houseAn extension has been built perpendicular to the former outbuilding. The upper parts of the gable ends are covered with wooden facing. All the walls are rendered and the windows are rectangular. The brick frames of those on the ground floor look out onto the courtyard. To the south, four wall dormers punctuate the slate roof either side of the extension. To the west, on the garden side, there is a patio with wooden decking next to the building.
The ground floor
The door opens into a vast entrance hall which leads to the reception rooms, divided between a lounge and dining room, followed by a kitchen and corridor leading to the bedrooms. A wooden and metal staircase, set against a wall with partially exposed stonework, climbs up to the first floor. The lounge is bathed in light, thanks to windows on three of its walls, and boasts a modern fireplace. The cathedral ceiling gives the room extra character. In the kitchen, a glazed door opens onto the patio from the dining area, where a wall with partially exposed stonework is framed by painted walls. All the floors are made up of large tiles. Below the staircase, a corridor crosses through the old part of the building. On the courtyard side, it leads to an office and a utility room, while on the garden side, two bedrooms with wardrobe space, a lavatory and a workshop, which can be reached from the outside, can be found. There is wood stripped flooring in the bedrooms, coconut fibre matting in the office, and tiling or terracotta tiles in the bathroom and lavatory.
The first floor
As on the ground floor, a corridor runs through the building, leading on either side to four bedrooms, all boasting cupboards and wood stripped flooring, except for one with coconut fibre matting. Two of the bedrooms overlook the courtyard. On the garden side of the house, there is a shower room, a lavatory and the two other bedrooms, one of which has an en suite shower room. The gardenThe garden is set back from the street to the rear of the house and faces southwest, enjoying plenty of sunshine. To the sides of the lawn, there are flower beds. At the front, an east-facing courtyard catches the rising sun. Alongside the crags, steps lead up to the wooded area at the top of the slope.
