A small chapel to be converted in north-east France, in the beautiful Ardennes regional nature park.
The Ardennes regional nature park is renowned throughout France for its outstanding natural beauty and strong cultural identity. You can enjoy many open-air activities here, with over 1,200 kilometres of footpaths and 450 kilometres of signposted off-road cycling trails. The Camino de Santiago pilgrims' way also runs through this region and many pilgrims make their way through this part of France, looking for a stopover. The chapel lies in a discreet hamlet that looks down over the surrounding countryside, 11 kilometres from the town of Charleville-Mézières.
The edifice stands in a hamlet. It is surrounded by towering conifers that hide it from its immediate neighbours. It is made of ashlar and was probably built in the 17th century. It is capped with a slate roof with slopes that gently flare out at the bottom. A belltower crowns this roof. The roofing was entirely renovated a dozen years ago. Only the belltower's slate cladding needs to be renovated now. A sacristy extends the chapel at a right angle to the main section. This annexe, which is lower in height, is also made of ashlar and likewise has a slate roof.

The chapelAn arched doorway beckons you inside, beneath a stone bull's-eye window. A single timber door leads into the edifice's main space, which offers a 66m² floor area under a six-metre-high ceiling. This vast room is bathed in natural light from many arched windows. In these windows, you can see the remains of stained-glass windows. In the chancel, the floor of stone slabs is slightly raised. This raised area leads to a sacristy with an 8m² floor area. Plumbing and electrics could be fitted in the building for water and power. And a septic tank, for private sanitation, could also be installed on the property.
