This neo-Gothic chateau, its wine storehouse and vat house stand at the edge of the vineyards and orchards, overlooking the municipality of Langoiran, in the Entre-deux-Mers sector of the Nouvelle Aquitaine region. The property has long been a feature of the landscape and dominates the surrounding agricultural land. The village includes essential everyday shops as well as services while the valley's markets can be easily reached. The main road networks are nearby, Bordeaux-Saint-Jean railway station is 40 minutes away and Bordeaux-Mérignac airport can be reached in 1 hour.
This three-storey chateau possesses an almost rectangular layout. Its compact and vertical volumes are in keeping with the traditions of lordly edifices transformed over time for residential use The very steep slate roof is punctuated by chimney stacks typical of the architecture in western France. The gable walls with steep roof inclines are topped with stone flowers or crosses, while narrow dormers punctuate the roof, accentuating the building's tall silhouette. The soberly composed facades are dotted with unevenly arranged openings, which are a result of the different stages of construction. Some among them, which are semi-circular arched or pointed arched and framed by discrete sculpted surrounds, are evocative of the Gothic style. The chateau possesses two outbuildings and the property stands within more than 25 hectares of land, dotted with old trees as well as around 7 hectares of slopes planted with grapevines.
The chateau
The ground floor
This level is set around a vaulted entrance hall, beneath semi-circular stone arcades, and is paved with 19th-century terracotta tiles. Two stone staircases lead to the other floors. On this level, there is an apartment made up of a modern kitchen, a small lounge, a large bedroom and a shower room. A reception room paved with Gironde tiles is currently used for wine tasting events. Next to it, there is a dining room and a utility room. The first floor
This level is set out around a corridor with a structured perspective, which is typical of 19th-century residences, and leads to the various rooms standing one after the other. The considerable ceiling height is showcased by a neo-classical inspired decor with pilasters, moulding, consoles, wainscotting and framed panelling, as well as the straight pitch pinewood strip flooring. On the eastern side of the edifice, there is a kitchen and dining room, while to the west, a master bedroom with a fireplace boasts an en suite bathroom and an office. Three further bedrooms each possess an en suite shower room.
The second floor
This level has a similar layout to the first floor, set around a corridor with rooms of the same proportions set one after another. The decorative features, such as mouldings, pilasters and panelling, are also reminiscent of the level below, as is the pitch pinewood strip flooring. The layout of the rooms follows the same principle: to the east, there is a kitchen with a dining room, while to the west there are four bedrooms, three of which have en suite shower rooms, and a suite with an adjoining bathroom as well as an office.
The attic
The top floor requires a complete restoration, though this can use the presence of the period locally-quarried stone on the walls and straight pitch pinewood strip flooring as a fine basis.
